Biography

Winner of the 53rd Jaen International Piano Competition in Spain held last April, Marianna Prjevalskaya is also a laureate of numerous international and national piano competitions. Only within one year she won five prizes at five international piano competitions including at the 2007 “Paderewski” International Piano Competition in Poland, the 2008 Young Artists Piano Competition in Hartford in USA, the 2008 Seoul International Piano Competition, the 2008 “Jose Iturbi” International Piano Competition in Valencia, where she also got a special “Kawai” prize for the best classified Spanish contestant and at the 2008 Ferrol International Piano Competition where she also got a special prize “Gregorio Baudot”. In November of 2009 Marianna was awarded the First Prize by a unanimous decision of the jury at the Jose Roca International Piano Competition in Valencia, Spain and in March of 2010 she became prize winner of Takamatsu International Piano Competition in Japan. In June of 2010 Marianna became the Bronze Medalist of 2010 Sendai International Piano Competition in Japan, where she performed Brahms D minor Piano Concerto in the final. In December of 2010 Marianna won the First Prize and a Special Prize for the best performance of a Baroque/Classical composition by a unanimous decision of the jury at Albacete National Piano Competition in Spain in December of 2010, in March of 2011 she received a Honorary Medal and a Special Prize for the best Spanish contestant at Maria Canals International Piano Competition in Barcelona and in May of 2011 Marianna won First Prize at Eugenia Verdet International Piano Competition in Barcelona. Her recent First Prize in Jaen includes a concert tour in Spain and in the United States as well as a recording for Naxos.


Other prizes she has won during her career include Second Prize at Young Concert Artists International Auditions in New York in 2004, Third Prize at the Kosciuszko Foundation Chopin Piano Competition in New York 2004, First Prize at the Beethoven Piano Competition at the RCM in 2002 in London, Second Prize at the Beethoven Intercollegiate Piano Competition of the Beethoven Society of Europe in London in 2002, First and unanimous prize at Dudley International Piano Competition in 2003 in United Kingdom, the First Prize and the Gold Chappell Medal at the Gold Chappell Medal Piano Competition in London in 2003 and First Prize and a Special Prize for Musicality at Marisa Montiel Piano Competition in Linares (Spain) at the age of 14.


During her career Marianna performed with Granada Symphony Orchestra, Galician Symphony Orchestra, Valencian Symphony Orchestra, Korean Symphony, Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra, Paderewski Pomeranian Philharmonic Orchestra, Rzeszow Philharmonic Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra of Moldavia. Marianna appeared in different festivals and in venues such as the Grosser Saal of the Mozarteum in Salzburg during the Salzburg Festival (Austria), Festival Russo at the Academia Santa Cecilia of Rome (Italy), Bologna Festival (Italy), Norwich and Norfolk Festival (UK), Divertimento Festival in Naleczow (Poland), Teatro Goldoni in Florence, Chopin Museum in Palma de Mallorca, Auditorio Manuel de Falla in Granada, Palau de la Musica in Valencia, Steinway Hall, Weill Recital Hall and Yamaha Artists Services Piano Salon in New York. She gave recitals in cities such as Bologna, Palermo and Warsaw, and in the UK she offered recitals in Leeds, Manchester, Glasgow, Dudley and London. Marianna was invited to participate in the European Piano Forum in Berlin as well as participated in the Summer Academies in Salzburg Mozarteum 2005, Euro Arts Music Academy in Leipzig 2006, Jose Iturbi International Piano Master Classes in Valencia in Spain in 2006 and in Holland International Music Sessions 2009. In 2010 Marianna performed at Yokohama International Piano Concert in Minato Mirai Hall in Japan, toured Germany with a series of recitals organized by Kawai and performed in the Festival “Caro Fryderyk” in Italy commemorating 200th Anniversary of Chopin’s birth.


Born in 1982, Marianna Prjevalskaya started to play the piano at the age of six having her mother Tatiana Prjevalskaya as her teacher for the following eleven years. Marianna made her first debut with a symphony orchestra at the age of nine and in 1992 moved to Spain with her family, where she continued her studies. After winning a scholarship from Foundation Pedro Barrie de la Maza, she continued her studies at the Royal College of Music in London studying with Irina Zaritskaya and Kevin Kenner graduating in 2003. Later on the same year she joined Toradze Piano Studio becoming a student of Alexander Toradze at Indiana Univestiry South Bend and in 2005 entered the Yale University School of Music studying with Boris Berman. Marianna holds Bachelor of Music from the Royal College of Music in London, Artist Diploma from Indiana University of South Bend, Master of Music and Artist Diploma from Yale School of Music being awarded the Irving S. Gilmore Scholarship. From 2007 for one year Marianna served as a graduate fellow teaching piano and playing chamber music at the Yale School of Music.


Marianna participated in different master classes around the world with distinguished professors such as Emanuel Ax, Piotr Paleczny, Andrej Jasinski, Peter Frankl, Claude Frank, John O'Conor, Domenique Merlet and Boris Slutsky.


Her first CD of Spanish Romantic chamber works have been released in 2002 by BOA recordings. Future engagements include recitals in Italy, Bulgaria, United States and Spain.
